The question this issue poses
A state-owned near-monopoly on India's domestic coking coal, sold entirely by its parent at 8.64x FY25 earnings — the question is whether FY25's ₹1,240.19 Cr profit or H1 FY26's ₹123.88 Cr is the honest base, because the core mining operation was loss-making in that half.
IPOVista score
Every pillar opens to show the raw metric, the curve it was mapped through, the sub-score and its weight. Disagree with the weighting if you like — the arithmetic is all here.
IPOVista score
Undemanding multiple for the margins
89% of the scoring model was backed by disclosed data for Bharat Coking Coal, giving high confidence. Weights for anything missing were redistributed rather than scored as zero.
Below the line: market sentiment. Capped at 8 of 100 points so a hot grey market can tilt a score but never carry one.

The company
Founded 1972 · 31,389 employees · part of Coal India Limited (Ministry of Coal, Government of India)
Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) is India's largest producer of coking coal — the grade of coal that steelmaking needs and that India overwhelmingly imports. Incorporated in 1972 and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Coal India Limited operating under the Ministry of Coal, it was granted Mini Ratna status in 2014. It accounted for roughly 58.50% of all domestic coking coal production in FY25 and sits on estimated reserves of about 7.9 billion tonnes as of April 2024, among the largest coking coal reserves in the country. Operations run across 34 mines in Jharkhand and West Bengal — 26 opencast, 4 underground and 4 mixed. It also operates five coking coal washeries with combined capacity of about 13.7 million tonnes a year, the largest coking coal washing capacity in India, and sells washed coking coal, raw coking coal and non-coking coal to steel, power, fertiliser and other industrial buyers.
BCCL mines coal and, increasingly, washes it before sale — washing is where the margin is, because blended washed domestic coking coal substitutes for imported coal in steel furnaces. Revenue is concentrated and contractual: the top ten customers account for more than 80% of sales, and offtake arrangements include a memorandum of understanding with SAIL for 1.8 million tonnes of washed coking coal and an agreement with Tata Steel to use spare third-party washery capacity. Three further washeries totalling 7 MTPA are planned, and discontinued underground mines are being brought back through the Mine Developer and Operator route on a revenue-sharing basis, with 6 of 10 such mines already awarded to private operators. The company is also exploring coal bed methane. Being a cash-rich state enterprise shapes the reported numbers: other income was about ₹599 Cr in FY25, which is why total income of ₹14,401.63 Cr exceeds revenue from operations of ₹13,802.55 Cr and why margins quoted on the two bases differ by several percentage points.
What makes it hard to copy
It produced 58.50% of India's domestic coking coal in FY25 and holds roughly 1,140.7 million tonnes of proved and probable coking coal reserves — the largest in the country — feeding the largest coking coal washing capacity in India at 13.65 MTPA across five washeries.

Demand
Subscription is hard exchange data. Grey-market premium is not — it is an unofficial quote, shown because readers want it and labelled because it deserves the label.
Cumulative bid multiples at the end of day 3. Anchor allocations are excluded.
Hover or focus a category to see who bids in it.
A category subscribed above 1× is oversubscribed; allotment in that category then runs as a lottery or on a proportionate basis.
Anchor investors commit one working day before the issue opens and are locked in for 30 and 90 days. Who turns up here is the first real signal of institutional appetite.
Notable participants
Premium quoted over the ₹23 cut-off price. Unofficial and unregulated — sentiment, not a forecast.
The grey market is an informal, unregulated market with no clearing house and no obligation to settle. A premium here does not guarantee a listing gain, and quotes can move sharply — this one ranged ₹10 to ₹18, a spread of ₹8, across the period shown.
Outcome
As of 13 Oct 2026
Work it out
Three calculations, each stating the assumption it rests on.
Shares are applied for in whole lots at the cut-off price. The full amount is blocked in your bank account under ASBA, not debited, until allotment.
One lot is 600 shares at ₹13,800. Retail applications are capped at ₹2,00,000, which allows up to 14 lots here — apply for more and you are bidding as a non-institutional investor instead.
When the retail category is oversubscribed, SEBI requires a lottery for the minimum lot. Every application has the same chance, whatever its size.
~2%
chance of one lot, per application
This is an estimate of a lottery, not a prediction. Actual odds depend on the final basis of allotment, how many applications were at the minimum lot, and rejections for technical reasons. Applying from multiple distinct PANs is the only legitimate way to hold more tickets in that lottery.
This issue has listed, so there is a real number instead of a prediction. The grey-market premium is shown beside it for comparison.
₹45.00
listed at, 95.7% against the issue price
The grey market called 76.1% and the stock did 95.7% — a miss of 19.6 percentage points.
